The 6-Day Umbwe Route is the steepest and most direct route on Kilimanjaro. It offers rapid ascent, dramatic scenery, and a challenging experience suitable for strong and experienced trekkers. The route provides excellent views of valleys, ridges, and the mountain’s western face.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 0 — Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Evening briefing and equipment check with your guide.

Day 1 — Moshi → Umbwe Gate → Umbwe Cave Camp

Drive to Umbwe Gate and begin a steep, direct climb through dense rainforest. Reach Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m).

Day 2 — Umbwe Cave → Barranco Camp

Continue along Umbwe ridge and merge with the Machame Route. Beautiful valley and ridge views on the way to Barranco Camp (3,960m).

Day 3 — Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

Climb the Barranco Wall, cross ridges and valleys to reach Karanga Camp (4,035m). Important acclimatization day.

Day 4 — Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

Ascend rocky terrain to Barafu Camp (4,673m). Rest early in preparation for the midnight summit push.

Day 5 — Summit → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

Start at midnight for the summit climb. Reach Stella Point (5,756m) and then Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend to Barafu for rest, then continue to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for overnight.

Day 6 — Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate → Moshi

Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Collect summit certificate and transfer to Moshi for celebration dinner.
