Drive to Marangu Gate and begin trekking through lush rainforest. Carry your own gear and set up camp at Mandara area (or stay in hut if you prefer). Acclimatize for higher altitudes and enjoy the forest scenery.

Trek through the alpine desert. Carry your own gear and set up camp at Kibo. Rest for summit night ahead.
Start around midnight to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) by sunrise. Descend back to Kibo and then Horombo while carrying your own gear. Only your guide is there to assist; no porters.
Descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate. Celebrate your successful self-supported climb and transfer back to Moshi for rest or onward travel.
