Welcome to Tanzania! Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide for a briefing, gear check, and preparation for the self-supported trek. Overnight in Moshi.
Drive to Marangu Gate for registration. Begin trekking through the rainforest carrying your own gear. Set up camp at Mandara area, acclimatize, and enjoy the local scenery.
Trek through heath and moorland zones. Carry your own equipment and set up camp at Horombo. Enjoy the sunset and prepare for acclimatization day.
Take a short hike toward Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Saddle. Return to Horombo campsite to rest and hydrate. This day improves summit success.
Cross alpine desert and the long saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Carry your own gear and set up camp at Kibo. Rest well for summit night.
Start around midnight to reach Gilman’s Point and continue to Uhuru Peak. Descend to Kibo for a short break, then back to Horombo while carrying your own gear.
Final descent through the rainforest to Marangu Gate. Celebrate your self-supported summit, then transfer to Moshi for rest or onward travel.
Tip: This 6-day self-supported trek allows better acclimatization, giving you a higher chance of reaching the summit safely.
