7-Day Lemosho Self-Supported Trek Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Kilimanjaro / Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a full briefing, equipment check, and preparation. Overnight in Moshi.

Day 1: Moshi – Lemosho Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

Drive 3–4 hours to Lemosho Gate (2,100m) for registration. Begin trekking through untouched rainforest with high chances of spotting colobus monkeys. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m).

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Climb steadily from dense rainforest into the moorland zone. Continue across the open Shira Plateau to reach Shira 2 Camp (3,840m). This longer trek helps with early acclimatization for higher altitudes ahead.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

From Shira 2 Camp (3,840m), gradually climb to Moir Hut (4,200m) for acclimatization. Continue ascending to Lava Tower (4,630m), then descend into the Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp (3,950m). This "climb high, sleep low" day helps your body adjust to higher altitudes.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Start by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Traverse ridges and valleys with stunning scenery. Arrive at Karanga Camp (4,035m), a short but crucial acclimatization day.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Hike upward to Barafu Camp (4,680m), your base camp for the summit. Have an early dinner and rest well before the midnight summit push.

Day 6: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Begin around midnight. Ascend slowly to Stella Point (5,756m), then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the roof of Africa! After celebrations, descend to Barafu for brunch, then down to Mweka Camp (3,100m).

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Walk through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and return to Moshi for a hot shower and relaxation.

Final Descent: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Final trek through rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and transfer back to Moshi for rest or onward travel.

The 7-day Lemosho Self-Supported trek offers low crowds, excellent acclimatization, and stunning scenery from rainforest to high desert. Ideal for experienced hikers carrying their own gear.
