8-Day Lemosho Self-Supported Trek Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Kilimanjaro / Moshi

Meet our driver at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi. Evening briefing and equipment check with your guide. Overnight in Moshi.

Day 1: Moshi – Lemosho Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

Drive to Lemosho Gate (2,100m) for registration. Begin your hike through lush rainforest with chances to see colobus monkeys. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m).

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa – Shira 1 Camp

Climb gradually from dense forest into the moorland zone. Cross the scenic Shira Plateau and reach Shira 1 Camp (3,500m).

Day 3: Shira 1 – Shira 2 Camp

Easy walking across the plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,840m). This day helps you acclimatize well and enjoy expansive views of Kibo Peak.

Day 4: Shira 2 – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization, then descend into the Barranco Valley for overnight at Barranco Camp (3,950m). A perfect climb-high sleep-low day.

Day 5: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp

Start the day by climbing the iconic Barranco Wall. Traverse several ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp (4,035m).

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Continue upward to Barafu Camp (4,680m). Rest early and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

Day 7: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Begin at midnight toward Stella Point (5,756m). A short push leads you to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Descend to Barafu, then down to Mweka Camp (3,100m).

Day 8: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Final rainforest descent to Mweka Gate. Collect your summit certificate and return to Moshi for a well-earned celebration.
