6-Day Machame Standard Trek Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Kilimanjaro / Moshi

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our driver will transfer you to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a full briefing, equipment check, and last-minute preparation. Overnight in Moshi.

Day 1: Moshi – Machame Gate – Machame Camp

Drive to Machame Gate (1,790m) for registration. Start trekking through lush montane forest filled with monkeys and beautiful flora. Arrive at Machame Camp (3,010m) after 5–6 hours.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp

Climb a steep ridge and exit the rainforest into moorland zone. Continue to the Shira Plateau with stunning views. Overnight at Shira Camp (3,840m).

Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

A classic acclimatization day: climb high to Lava Tower (4,630m) then descend to Barranco Camp (3,950m). This “climb high, sleep low” strategy is key for altitude adaptation.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Barafu Camp

Start by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, then traverse several valleys before reaching Barafu Camp (4,680m). Early dinner and rest ahead of the summit attempt.

Day 5: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

At midnight, begin the ascent to Stella Point (5,756m), then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Celebrate, take photos, then descend to Barafu for brunch before heading to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for the night.

Day 6: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi

Walk through the beautiful rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate and drive back to Moshi for a hot shower and rest. End of trek.

The Machame Route is known for its beautiful scenery, steady acclimatization profile, and high summit success rate — recommended for trekkers who want a challenging yet rewarding climb.
